Government’s Reason for Decline
The move was made following the advice of the Director General of Police (DGP) of Tamil Nadu, citing possible traffic congestion due to the timing coinciding with school hours. The DGP further stated that this decision was taken considering the potential for heavy traffic during the morning rush.
Additional Security Measures
Notably, the DGP also mentioned that additional security measures will be implemented from 5 am on October 19, 2023. The primary motive is to ensure order and public safety during the movie’s release.
Screening Timings
Despite the rejection of the early morning screening, the movie will still have a generous screening schedule. ‘Leo’ will be shown between 9 am and 1 am, with a total of five showings for the first six days of release.
Dispute Moves to Court
Following the government’s decision, the movie’s producer, SS Lalith Kumar, took the case to the Madras High Court. He demanded that the film be permitted to screen at 4 am across Tamil Nadu.
Court’s Verdict
However, the court dismissed the producer’s plea, stating that the film cannot be screened at 4 am. Despite the setback, the court suggested that the Tamil Nadu government consider permitting the film to screen at 7 am.
Meeting with Theatre Owners Association
In the wake of the court’s order, a meeting was convened between producer Lalit Kumar and the Theatre Owners Association’s office-bearers. The government’s final decision was taken after this meeting.
